About a bumpy hour drive outside of Vientiane, there is a small field beside the Mekong River full of weather-beaten statues, some familiar (a lot of Buddha images), others less so.  What catches our eye is a giant bulbous structure, sprouting a leaf-less tree, greeting us with the toothy yawn of a demon figure:

The inside feels like a self-contained world, and the inner sphere is actually split into three levels – Heaven, Earth, and Hell.  The most devilish compartment also has the most interesting figures:
