On my last night in Kunming, after Myra had left for the airport, I dropped by Guan Xing Lu, near Bao Hai Park, to have some warming wild mushroom hot pot, a specialty of this particular corner of town.

At Lao Zi Hao, you pick which mushrooms you want, with a whole range of prices (by weight), with some really pricey ones which are supposedly wild and supposedly rare.  Who knows, but I chose a couple of them: 鸡油菌 (yellow chanterelles) and 松茸蘑 (matsutake mushrooms), along with other more pedestrian or texturally different things, like wheat gluten (something like 冻豆腐), tofu skin, and daylily (黄花菜).House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan 1 House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan 2 House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan 3 House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan 4 House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan 5 House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan Yellow Flowers Tofu Skin House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan Gluten House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan 6Oh and this porcini fried rice.House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan Hen of the Woods Fried RiceThe soup comes with a small assortment of diced mushrooms anyway, so even if you don’t get too much else, you’ll still get some tasty pieces of stuff like this button mushroom.House of Haos Lao Zi Hao Mushroom Hotpot Kunming Yunnan Dipping SauceLao Zi Hao Wild Mushroom Hot Pot (老字号野生菌)
